2020 is the 300th anniversary of James Hargreaves. Hyndburn Borough Council wants to celebrate our village hero and we are working with them to bid for funds to celebrate this event across the borough.
In the pipeline are a series of drama/music/art projects with local schools - West End Primary and Hyndburn Park Primary with performances in June and September respectively. We will also be working with the Chapel in celebrating village and Methodist heritage.
We are also hoping to have an open day in the Market Hall in Accrington in September with our own Spinning Jenny exhibition, spinning demonstrations, a mill workers memory lane photo display and a performance of street ballads from the 18th and 19th century by Jennifer Reid, a professional singer and clog dancer and recording artist.
We are also hoping to get permission to erect a 'Welcome To Stanhill Village - Home Of The Spinning Jenny' sign [or signs] so we can really put the village on the map.
Over the past 12 months we have given a lot of walks and talks in Stanhill and talks around Accrington about James Hargreaves and the village to over 300 people. We continue to receive bookings. If you know any group who might be interested in a talk please let me know. We are also aware that there are residents in and around the village who are at work during the day and have not yet had an opportunity to attend a talk and demonstration. If that's you please let us know if we can arrange a convenient time to invite you over.
Meanwhile our video - James Hargreaves - Spin Doctor - has now received 13,130 views on Youtube.
